Abnormally dilated, large ropey varicose veins are not only visually unappealing, but can also cause swelling and pain. If you are uncomfortable because of your enlarged, unsightly veins, there are a variety of treatment options that can help.
At Midwest Vein Care, one of the many varicose vein treatment options we offer is endovenous laser ablation. This varicose vein treatment option addresses both the medical resolution of varicose veins and varicose vein symptoms (pain, aching, swelling, tiring, restless legs), as well as the aesthetic concerns. To learn more about this or any vein treatments, contact us today at 636-536-0241 to set up a complimentary vein consultation. Come in and find solutions for your varicose vein and cosmetic conditions.
Varicose veins occur primarily as the result of an inherited tendency to have weakened veins, which is exacerbated by gravity/standing and pregnancy. These veins are likely to appear on the lower half of the body including on feet, ankles, calves, and thighs. In many cases varicose veins may cause no symptoms (pain, itching, burning, fatiguing, swelling), however in more serious cases, they can be quite symptomatic and even lead to medical complications like venous stasis skin ulcers, and increased incidence of blood clotting in the superficial or deep vein systems.
Endovenous laser ablation is a common treatment option for varicose veins. This treatment method is done in our office under local anesthesia, and is considered minimally invasive with essentially no down time. Endovenous thermal ablation of the leaking varicose vein axis has become the current treatment of choice, replacing the older and more invasive vein stripping procedure. It is extremely safe and effective in treating varicose vein conditions that are secondary to refluxing abnormal venous valves that allow for backward, abnormal flow in the significant veins. By lasering the offending vein closed, we will stop the abnormal backflow, and blood will return to the heart more normally through working veins.
Endovenous laser ablation is completed using the thermal energy of a laser to cause the closing and destruction of a damaged blood vessel, which will then be resorbed by the body. Consequently, there is a natural re-routing of the venous return through normal healthy veins. This laser vein surgery leaves only a tiny scar, and healing is rapid and without downtime.
Endovenous laser ablation is completed with only local anesthesia and the patient will be conscious throughout the procedure. During the consultation and subsequent ultrasound vascular testing, we will determine which veins will require laser ablation and subsequent ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy.
Like all types of treatment for varicose veins, endovenous ablation requires extensive evaluation prior to treatment to determine if this is the best option for treatment. Midwest Vein Care recommends this treatment option for appropriate patients with refluxing (leaking) saphenous trunk veins that are contributing to significant varicose veins and resultant symptoms. In order to determine the eligibility of a patient for endovenous laser ablation, we will do a detailed venous history and physical exam as well as color flow duplex ultrasound vascular testing.
Endovenous laser thermal ablation is a very successful state of the art laser procedure that is extremely effective in treating larger varicose veins. The benefits of endovenous ablation are listed below.
If you think you may be a potential candidate for endovenous laser ablation or you would like to learn more about all of the types of vein treatments we offer, call us today at (636) 536-0241 to schedule an appointment for a personal no charge vein consultation.
