Laser vein treatment is an alternative to sclerotherapy when the latter has been ruled out, or sclerotherapy has been less successful than desired. Laser vein treatment works best on spider veins and facial veins. It is not used to treat large varicose veins. Spider veins are small, superficial blue, purple, or red blood vessels visible on your cheeks, nose, forehead, thighs, or legs. Unlike varicose veins, spider veins do not cause large bulging on the skin.
The basic principle that applies to laser vein treatment is the delivery of a focused beam of light of a single wavelength that is delivered transcutaneously (through the skin) tracing the course of a vein. This beam of light is preferentially absorbed by the blood in the vein, the light energy coverts to heat that will heat the vein and seal it closed. Over the next few weeks, the veins will disappear on their own as the body reabsorbs them. To achieve the maximum benefit of laser vein treatment, it will usually take a small series of treatments (2-3) in approximately 4 week intervals. It may also be necessary to combine treatment techniques such as sclerotherapy and VeinGogh radiofrequency with laser therapy. There is another treatment known as intense plusled light (ipl) that we also use for unwanted tiny veins and facial rosacea. It is laser-like transcutaneous light absorption. However, rather than a focused beam of single wavelength light, ipl is multi-wavelength broadband white light.
We will evaluate your particular vein concerns as to vein size, depth, presentation, area on the body, skin type and treatment history to develop a customized plan for you…utilizing the very best therapy or combination of techniques for your treatment plan.
Laser vein treatment is non-invasive, leaves no scar tissue, and is absolutely safe. There may be a sensation of a tiny rubber band snapping on your skin as the laser does its job, but this can be easily lessened by the application of chilled air and or a topical anesthetic. Midwest Vein Care was the first Missouri facility to utilize a laser for hair removal in 1997, and also extensive laser vein removal, so we have a long and successful track record of cosmetic laser and intense pulsed light (ipl) usage.
Laser vein treatment has many benefits over conventional vein removal options, such as sclerotherapy. Here are some of the benefits.
